ActiveRain Reaches 200,000 Members

Woo Hoo!!!  What a milestone!  Congrats to everyone behind the scenes for making this site such a wonderful network to be apart of!  And now on to the next 100,000 :)

It is with great pride and much humility that we announce ActiveRain has reached 200,000 members!

As of Monday January 17th, 2011 our membership number has gone over the 200,000 mark. The journey to get to this point wouldn't have been possible without the amazing support of our members. We've always been big dreamers, but nowhere in our wildest dreams did we imagine the impact this community would have on our own lives and on the lives, and businesses, of the members who choose to participate here.

It's our members that have made ActiveRain the foremost place on the internet to get information about the real estate industry. It's our members that have made ActiveRain the greatest community of professionals on the internet today. It's our members that have chosen to passionately share their love for the industry from which they derive a living. It's our members who have freely shared with one and other the secrets to their success. It's our member that have chosen to educate and connect with millions of consumers a month.

Much like many of you, we've traveled to the far corners of the internet, and never have we seen a more caring and engaged group of people online. The support and kindness extended by our members has literally changed the way we view our industry. The members of this community are a special breed of professional and we will never be able to thank you enough for helping us achieve this milestone.

Our journey to get to 200,000 members has been all about our members!

We are going to be hosting a little party on Twitter at the hashtag #AR200K. We'll be tweeting special messages under that hashtag and giving away some prizes for our membership. If you haven't taken the time to figure out Twitter, it may be worth looking into today so you can follow along at the hashtag #AR200K. We will be giving away ActiveRain shirts, some community sponsorships, and a few free Rainmaker accounts.

In addition to winning something cool via Twitter, we'd also like to extend a special one day invitation to our members to get a free community sponsorship. You'll have to follow the directions exactly, but they are pretty simple:

This was posted several weeks ago, but I really think that there are some clear advantages to listing and selling your home during the holidays.  And some of these apply to buying a home during the holidays as well.

Real Estate Holiday WreathYes, It is October and the Holidays are Coming.  In just 3 Short Weeks the Halloween Deco will come down and the Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah Decorations will come out of the Closets.  This is a Great Time to List a Home and there are even more reasons this year to List during the Holiday Season.

With the Present Moritorium on Foreclosures, the Inventories should draw down and that will mean less competition for sellers putting their homes on the market during the holidays and may mean a better opportunity for a quicker sale with less hassles.

Here are the top 10 reasons to List this time of year:

  1. People who look for homes this time of year are serious buyers and not just out there to wear down your carpets.  Serious Buyers pay more for a home.  So you get less inconvenience and more serious buyers.
  2. In January and forward into the spring there will be dramatically more homes coming to market every day.  With more competition, there will be less demand for a particular home.
  3. Serious Buyer have fewer houses to chose from during the holidays which in turn means less competition and more money for you.
  4. Houses show better when decorated for the holidays. Buyers are more emotional during the holidays and a well decorated house with that cinnamon and apple smell with the pine from the tree will affect their buying decision.
  5. Buyers may have more time to look for a home with time off during the holidays and winter vacation breaks. 
  6. Many people want to buy before the end of the year for tax reasons.
  7. Traditionally people are transferred at the end of the year and they will need to find new homes and won't be able to wait until spring to buy.
  8. You can be on the market and still restrict showings during family times on the holidays.
  9. You may be able to get more money now and extend closing or delay occupancy until next year.
  10. By Selling now, you could be a Non-contingent (IE No house to sell) buyer in the spring when many more homes are available for less money.  (Buy low, sell high)
