This is the newest billboard to hit Madison Square --The Carbon Counter.
Deutsche Bank unveiled this giant billboard on June 18th as part of a public awareness campaign to educate Americans about our rising greenhouse gas emissions.
The 70-foot tall sight, which sits right outside Madison Square Garden, is noted as the world's first scientifically valid, real-time emissions display.
According to Greenbiz.com,"The counter is important because it's the first real-time calculation for greenhouse gases going up into the atmosphere," Deutsche Bank's Kevin Parker said before switching on the counter. "This is important because every second we put 800 metric tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere -- every second, of every minute, of every day, of every year."
Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Problems are easily ignored if you aren't put face-to-face with them. And that's just what this billboard does. And by having to see this giant proclamation of how much damage we're doing, we can do something about it.
