What to expect in Charleston for 2009

With the new year we welcome some new events in Charleston, SC. Here are just a few new events to expect in 2009.

1. The Charleston Stiletto Stampede:Schedule for March 21, 2009 this gung-ho fundraiser is a must see for this Charlestonian. The Stampede is a 100 yard dash and the participants (women and men) must wear high heels no less than 3". This event will be held in Mt. Pleasant on Houston Northcutt Blvd. The 1st place winner will receive prizes that total more than $10,000.  Check out www.stilettostampede.com for more information and to register.

2. Mt. Pleasant's waterfront park:The anticipated water park is finally set to open this year to welcome everyone. The park is slated to open either the 4th of July of Labor Day weekend. The park features the state's longest public pier, which will be 1250 feet long as well there will be a memorial to veterans, the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion and Mt. Pleasant Visitor Center.  Visit www.townofmountpleasant.com

3. Stand-up paddleboarding contest: While this is not the first time this will be held in Charleston, this year there will be an advance notice to the contest. The event is set for Oct 10-11 on Isle of Palms. More information will be released later this year, go to www.charlestonwatersport.com to learn more.

4. Monster Dash & Goblin Dash:This Halloween themed expo will be held October 24th on Sullivan's Island. This fundraiser, benefiting Louie's Kids, consist of a 5k run and a gallop/dash for children. Costumes are a must.
